Purpose of the Job
The Geographoc Unit Financial Controller is responsible for leading all financial governance activities for the geographic unit. This includes planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance controlling, margin analysis, and strategic financial support. The role partners closely with the General Manager (GM) and Station Managers to achieve goals and objectives including commercial and strategic ones. While ensuring compliance with financial corporate standards and policies.
The GU Controller acts as the financial co-pilot for operational leadership, ensuring transparency, cost efficiency, and sustainable profitability.
Job Description
1. Financial Planning & Budgeting
- Lead annual Budget preparation process, ensuring strong coordination with business key stakeholders.
- Consolidate inputs from operations, sales, logistics, treasury, and support functions and guide other functions on best practices and assumptions to be used for budgeting purposes.
- Challenge assumptions to ensure accuracy, realism, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Present planning outputs to regional and global finance stakeholders.
- Weekly update of forecasting and ensure proper action plans taken where appropriate.
- Lead the process of Flash, Next Month Forecast, Mid-Month Forecast.
- Lead the process of Rolling forecast on quarterly basis.
2. Performance Controlling & Business Partnering
- Track country/cluster level performance vs. budget and forecasts.
- Conduct variance analysis (volume, revenue, cost, productivity, yield, and margin).
- Support GM and station managers with decision-making insights.
- Identify risks and opportunities, recommending corrective actions.
3. Cost Optimization & Profitability Management
- Analyze cost drivers across pickup, delivery, Middlemile, Linehaul and overhead functions.
- Lead initiatives to improve margin performance and operational efficiency.
- Ensure profitability by product, station, and customer segment.
- Ensure timely billing and control revenue leakage.
4. Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to IFRS reporting requirements.
- Ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
- Oversee internal controls, process documentation, and continuous improvement.
5. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead a team of controllers and analysts, ensuring high performance and development.
- Encourage cross-functional collaboration and standardization of financial processes.
6. Financial reporting and month end closing.
- Lead all month end closing activities.
- Ensure billing is accurate, timely and aligned with contractual agreements.
- Ensure costs are recognized in accordance with contracted rates.
- Ensure proper accruing to reflect accurate margins.
- Manage accounting cycles and ensure proper controls.
- Ensure accounts are reconciled and reflect accurate financial position.
- Manage Collections and credit across geography.
- Manage Payables and ensure compliance.
- Manage external/internal audit.
- Support global/regional reporting teams.
Job Requirements - Experience and Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
• 10–15 years of progressive finance experience, including minimum 5 years in a controlling or FP&A leadership role
• Strong understanding of logistics, courier operations, or supply chain finance (preferred)
• Professional certifications preferred: CPA, CMA, ACCA (Charted Accountant), CFA.
• Advanced financial modeling expertise.
• Deep knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control methodologies
• Strong business partnering capabilities
• Ability to challenge assumptions with constructive thinking
• Proficiency in ERP & reporting tools (SAP, Power BI)
