Purpose of the Job

The Inventory Control Manager plays a critical role in managing and optimizing inventory levels for both the company and its customers. They are responsible for providing senior leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to all aspects of inventory control processes, ensuring accurate record-keeping, efficient stock management, and timely replenishment to meet operational needs. The Inventory Control Manager collaborates with various departments, such as inbound, outbound, control tower, and directly with clients, to maintain an efficient and cost-effective inventory management system.

 

This role is located in Houston, Texas near IAH.

 

Job Description

  • Lead and supervise a team of inventory control staff, ensuring they are properly trained and adhere to standard operating procedures, including receiving, counting, storing, and fulfilling customer orders (both internal and external).
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of inventory levels using inventory management software or systems (SAP).
  • Analyze inventory data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement inventory tracking systems, conduct regular audits, and maintain accurate records of stock movements and levels.
  • Assist in the reconciliation of inventory variances.
  • Prepare regular reports on inventory performance, stock levels, turnover rates, and related key performance indicators (KPIs) for management review.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Continuously review and enhance inventory control procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement best practices and industry standards to optimize inventory management processes, such as balancing inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials, negotiate terms, and manage relationships.
  • Develop labor plans and budget equipment needs for review with site leadership, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
  • Manage the handling of expired or damaged products, including repackaging, disposal decisions, or returning items to inventory as needed.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of internal and customer systems to effectively support the team in resolving inventory and production-related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements - Experience and Education

  • Strong understanding of warehouse management systems, inventory control methods, and best practices in distribution.
  • Proven track record in creating strategic plans and effectively implementing tactical plans for team success.
  • Lead and develop the inventory control team by providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and a positive work environment.
  • Work closely with sales, production, logistics, and other departments to align inventory management with overall business goals.
  • Proficient in using supply chain management software, such as SAP, and skilled in Microsoft Office applications including Advanced Excel (pivot tables, macros), Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Conduct regular audits and reconcile inventory data to ensure physical stock matches recorded data, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Oversee planning and execution of cycle counts, ensuring compliance with service level agreements, and develop controls to prevent and correct inventory errors.
  • Focus on reducing costs through effective expense management, stock obsolescence prevention, and improving supply chain efficiency.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities to interpret data, track inventory accuracy, and identify trends in variances.

    2. To participate in the annual performance appraisal and objective setting scheme.

      Working Conditions:

      Operational Warehouse environment, multi-site requirement.

      Flexible working patterns and must be willing to work overtime including weekends, at the discretion of the Manager.
