Purpose of the Job
The Head of Fleet is responsible for leading and optimising the courier fleet operation across Sydney, ensuring the delivery of consistent, reliable, and cost-effective service. This role is accountable for achieving and maintaining a high service standard, driving strong cost control discipline and brand compliance, and embedding a culture of operational excellence across all fleet functions.
The role provides strong direction and guidance to Senior Fleet Managers and Fleet Managers, ensuring alignment to business objectives, continuous improvement, and scalable operational processes. The Head of Fleet will balance service performance, productivity, safety, and cost efficiency while supporting network growth and peak readiness.
Job Description
• Lead the end-to-end fleet operation across Sydney, ensuring alignment with business strategy and operational targets
• Deliver and sustain a minimum 95% service performance through effective planning, execution, and performance management
• Own and manage the fleet cost base, driving cost control initiatives across labour, routes, vehicle usage, and productivity
• Develop, implement, and monitor operational plans that improve efficiency, utilisation, and service reliability
• Lead, coach, and develop Senior Fleet Managers and Fleet Managers to build a high-performing and engaged and well-connected team
• Establish clear performance metrics and accountability frameworks across all fleet functions
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimisation, route efficiency, and resource planning
• Ensure appropriate fleet sizing, capacity planning, and peak readiness strategies are in place
• Work collaboratively with depot operations, linehaul, and support functions to optimise end-to-end network performance
• Monitor and manage fleet KPIs, including service levels, cost per stop, productivity, SafetyNet payments and safety metrics
• Identify and mitigate risks relating to service delivery, operational constraints, and safety
• Ensure compliance with all CF manual, GCCD, safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
• Lead transformation initiatives, including automation integration, system improvements, and new ways of working
• Maintain strong governance and reporting standards, providing clear insights and action plans to senior leadership
Job Requirements - Experience and Education
• Proven experience in fleet, transport, or logistics operations leadership role
• Demonstrated success managing large, multi-layered teams in a fast-paced operational environment
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing and reducing operational cost bases
• Track record of delivering high service performance in logistics or distribution environments
• Experience in leading change, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational data and drive decisions
• Knowledge of routing, fleet optimisation, and resource planning systems preferred
• Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline (preferred)
